Awning Cleaning & Maintenance

Our awnings are designed with longevity in mind. We want our customers to be proud of their new awnings, without having to worry about them or keep up with heavy maintenance. There is a small amount of maintenance that comes with canvas awnings, including regular cleaning and waterproofing.
Just once a year your canvas awnings will need to be cleaned with water. Do not pressure wash your awnings, as that could tear or rip the seams between the canvas pieces. It is best to wash your awnings with a mild laundry soup, but not with laundry detergent. Apply a waterproofer to your awning every other year after a thorough cleaning.

Signs of Wear and Tear

You canvas awnings will most likely need to be replaced after 8-12 years if they are properly taken care of. To get the most life out of them, capital Awning recommends cleaning them each year and waterproofing them.
If your awnings are getting a bit older, you may notice that they become worn around the seams or develop small holes in the canvas. This is normal as bugs and animals may have gotten onto the canvas fabric. You may also notice that the canvas portion has faded after many years of continuous use.
